The former owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Kevin McClatchy, came out as gay in an interview with the New York Times last week. McClatchy owned the Pirates from 1996 to 2007.

MSNBC anchor Melissa Harris-Perry discussed how the new voter ID laws being implemented across the country impacts transgender voters in an interview with the Washington Blade.
She said:
“They don’t look like what their photo IDs are,” she said from New Orleans. “So if they are self-presenting in front of an election official and they have an ID that says male or female and they’re sort of gender self-presenting in a non-conforming way, of course you end up with the possibility of shame or embarrassment or not being believed to be who you are.”

In a letter last week Homeland Security Sec. Janet Napolitano pledged to consider the relationship status of a gay or lesbian person in deportation proceedings. This announcement brought great relief to many bi-national gay and lesbian couples whose relationships are not recognized by the federal government due to the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
