This past week the full Democratic platform committee unanimously voted to approve of the party’s platform with the the marriage equality plank as well as other Pro-LGBT language. The language of the marriage equality plank was adopted without amendment and without significant discussion.

Florida elected its first openly gay state legislator on Tuesday when David Richardson won his democratic primary. Richardson is not facing a Republican opponent in November.

Last Friday Army Colonel Tammy Smith was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General during a private ceremony at the Women’s Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery making her the highest ranked openly gay member of the U.S. military. Smith came out during the ceremony when her wife, Tracey Hepner, pinned her star on her uniform.
