Hidden Voices: The Lives of LGBT Muslims
“Hidden Voices: The Lives of LGBT Muslims” and Faisal Alam present the struggles and challenges facing sexual and gender minorities within the Muslim world.
While highlighting the diversity of Islam around the world and in the United States, “”Hidden Voices”" explores the legacy of colonialism and sodomy laws within the Muslim world; and the suppression of LGBT rights around the world under the guise of the so-called “war on terror.”"
With more than 1.5 billion followers, Islam is the 2nd largest religion in the world. An estimated 6-8 million Americans call themselves Muslim and Islam is the fastest growing religion in the United States. Yet many Americans continue to view Islam with skepticism and uncertainty. Using his struggle to reconcile his sexuality and his faith, Faisal explores the complexities facing an often invisible and silent community: Muslims who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender.
