Question: Where do I find movies and books about Matt?

Answer: You can search online book and video vendor sites and find a variety of films and books about Matthew’s murder. The Foundation recommends Judy Shepard’s memoir “The Meaning of Matthew: My Son’s Murder in Laramie, and a World Transformed,” available in hardcover, paperback and audiobook formats. Also of interest is the HBO movie version of “The Laramie Project.”

Question: Can I have a picture of Matthew?

Answer: Almost all photos of Matthew are copyrighted and require permission from the Matthew Shepard Foundation or a third-party photographer for any use governed by U.S. and international copyright law, such as commercial use or re-publication including posters, event program and websites. To request permission, please contact us explaining how you wish to use the photo. Requests will be promptly considered and responded to.

Question: Where exactly is the fence Matthew was tied to, and how do I get there?

Answer: The fence’s owners several years ago removed it from its original location on a ranch east of Laramie and we are unaware of where it currently is. Where the fence was located is privately owned property and cannot be accessed without specific permission from its owners.

Question: Where is Matthew’s family now?

Answer: Judy Shepard, Matthew’s mother, is the President of the Governing Board of the Matthew Shepard Foundation travels the country extensively to educate the public about Matthew’s life, his murder, the prosecution of his assailants, and their family’s continuing campaign for an end to hate crimes and discrimination. She and her husband Dennis, Matthew’s father, who also serves on the Foundation’s Governing Board, both live in Casper, Wyoming. Mathew’s younger brother, Logan lives in Denver and manages awareness programs for the Foundation including its “Erase Hate” product line.
